I went to the truck wash the other day and everything was fine. When i got into the truck to drive away there was a squeek coming from the driver side wheel when i turned the corner to leave. I figured it was just water from the wash but it hasn't gone away and before i drive another 50 miles to the mechanic that can check it out i was wondering if anyone would like to chime in here . I dont have to be braking when this occurs, just turning a corner The squeek speeds up with the speed of the wheel rotation . I guess it serves me right for not washing the truck myself !! Thanks in advance for any help~ shorty

It sounds like you have an axle u-joint going out. Try jacking up the wheel. Rotate it while it's straight ahead. Then turn the steering wheel as far as it will go. The wheel should still rotate freely. Try it turned as far as it will go the other way. If the wheel rotates roughly or is hard to turn the u-joint is probably bad.

thanks Joe G i will do what you suggest as soon as it stops raining here. Illflem would the warning squeek on the pads sound even if i'm not braking ?

My stock pads did many moons ago especially if I was near a wall were the sound reflected back. Applying the brakes hard made the squeal go away for awhile. Easy enough to check both the u-joint and pad possibilities at the same time.

Thanks Bill What kind of pads do you recommend when I replace them ? this is my first diesel truck and i'm still learning .

Carbomet pads from tdr brake guru Sam Peterson are hard to beat for quality and price. Give him a call at 360/357-4958 M-F 8-5.
