How does one tell what steering bar is on this model Ram

2009 3500 4x4 four on the floor. Luckily this happened as i was just getting on freeway n not 5 min later. #@$%! Snapped clean across at bass of stud ball:eek:

The joints probably werent installed parallel to each other when the steering was installed or aligned. It will usually break at low speeds when there is more stress on the steering, not at freeway speeds

I believe the change over to the "T" style from the "Y" style steering was 2008. 5. You should have the "T". Hoefler is right, there is a recall out for that steering now.

a friend in tx drives a chassis cab abulance and they snapped a tie rod to. my dealer told me to send him pics of the ends to determine if my updated stearing was part of the recall.

OK... the recall CAN apply to older trucks that had the 08 parts upgrade.

Check out the last bullet point on this press release --

I got the recall on my 03. I thought it was because they had done a repair to the front end (end links) but later, at the time of the recall they didn't seem to know what they had replaced. The recall said something like "suspension work was done on you Ram so there may be an issue".

I'm hoping Sage or Don will develop some bombproof tre's with proven metallurgical integrity.

Clark, with those roads you travel on(especially Hwy 1 south to Elk),a little peace of mind would sure help.

Well just yesterday I drove up to Fort Bragg with my daughter in the rain and the truck handled GREAT, but I DEFINITELY would not want a tie rod end to snap with a 300' drop to the ocean right at my side!!! Of course, I wouldn't want it to happen at 65 mph on a crowded freeway either, though from what I am reading it seems that for some reason the breakage is happening on low speed turns. Not sure if that is flat-out luck, or something to due with the flaw.

All that being said, I would consider a real aftermarket upgrade if it came along.

I am thinking the same thing. Some body needs to build the bomber set up for the stock and 3" trucks that clears the stock wheels. Dons crossover steering using heims at the knuckles only works on the 6" trucks and I believe needs a different backspacing on the wheel. Your old kore coils are going to get some use next week in Baja. Just got the Thuren truss all welded up and the new style DYSKOs are going in on Monday.

Good show! Have a good time down there! My friend returned through Tecate last Wednesday @ 8:00 pm. Three cars in line. Lots of surfers headed down to the Hermanas Siete region he said as well as Canadian snowbirds. :)

I'd get a lawyer. The fact that we need to spend a single penny on any kind of upgraded parts in order to have a safer vehicle is a bunch of crap! Thank God nobody was hurt this time..... but what about next time? Don't think for a minute that it won't happen... to you or to somebody. It's just a matter of time. Meanwhile, we continue to dump money into these trucks and DC continues to get away with murder. . #@$%!
