sacramento area, not sure if upper route
above yosemite or going valley route(weather)
plan to leave saturday before , spend 1 night
on road coming and going, leave vegas
saturday am, have ham radio, local call
freq. 146. 865 repeater 146. 2 pl ?

Bill. . you talking about 395 or going over 120 . . if over 120 it won't be open by then... they try for 7/4 opening and often make that date by a week or two

if a problem ill go valley route
never drove it. i plan to leave sat am
and return following weekend
w/ 1 night eachway in large p/u camper
if i go valley its 50 west to 99 or5
i guess

Bill. . 395 is the north /south hwy behind [east] Yosemite and that is a pretty drive but slow. . you could also go thru the Nevada route [don't remember the numbers but look at the map]. .
best route via valley is 99 south to 58 east [Bakersfield]. . don't go over to 5 as you'll add miles to your drive

Gary, that's true, but highway 5 is sooo much faster #ad

My folks live in Barstow, and I usually go down 99 to 58 when I visit them, but highway 5 of course has no towns to speak of between Stockton and the Grapevine, so average speed is usually a bit faster than 99.
