Well truck still acting weird on start up! 46 deg. out tonight, turned key to on position... wait to start light is only staying on for about 3 sec. ??? What gives???? once I started it, it runs rough for about 3-5 sec. then comes out of it and acts normal. I tried again later, turned key on light goes out quick I wait about 10 sec. longer, starts fine!?!?!?! Ive got 3900 miles on my truck, and dont want the problems to start this soon! Should I go to the dealer or is there something I can do??? Any ideas on what to tell dealer, things to avoid, if I do have to go to dealer?? Thanks as always... ..... Smokin' Joe

Do you have that "3 cylinder" fast warmup programming installed?

Another fella posted almost the identical problem - had some replies, but haven't heard if he found the problem - or cure - yet...

OK - one last shot - at less than 50 degrees or so the grid heaters will kick in and cycle for several minutes - during that time, HEAVY current draw pulls system voltage REAL low - IF your LP is marginal, that MIGHT be enough to cause fuel delivery problems, especially if your fuel filter is dirty as well - I see you have guages, do you monitor fuel pressure, and at what point in the system - you MIGHT see decent pressure AHEAD of the filter, but still be low at the VP-44 under the above conditions...

Hope that helps...

what is your FP when you start the truck, do they drop as the truck stumbles? Maybe your heater grid are not working properly.

Gueesing here, but, On occasion, I have started before wait to start goes off. I have had the same things happen. Runs rotton for a fes seconds and then smooths out. To me that part seems normal.

What seems to be the problem is the length of ime the grids are on. I would look to the temp sensor that tells the grids how long to be on. I have read here that it is under the battery, I really don't know where it is. Do you have s shop manual?

start up prob

Well guys thanks for all your help! Sorry been off web for couple of nights. I left my truck unpluged Friday night to see what it did Sat. morning. Started fine acted fine and completely normal! What the FFFFffffff?????? You know our trucks are self healing right? I will also tell you I dont have my fuel pressure gauge hooked up yet. Has been too cold to work outside... just now warming back up. That is one of the project high on my list! Still hasnt done it again as of now... wonder if I passed some trash through the fuel system?????

water in the filter housing????

drain some out with the little valve spitter thingy on the side of the filter housing

get press gauge hooked up (very important)

check for leaks on banjos (possibly leaking down and getting air in)

too warm for number 1 fuel so its not gelling

although I ve had some of that soy diesel gell at 20 degrees
