ive been trying to decide between using the steel spacers or going with the D25 springs to level my truck. my concern is will there be any negative effect going with the springs being they are the same rate? i feel that the steel spacers would be closer to stock and might be better on the rest of the parts(balljoints, steering, etc. ) ive had spacers on another CTD and while the made the room for the tires i didnt get anything else outa them. would the D25's improve the ride offroad? thanks

I had spacers on my 01 gasser and hated them. I'm leveling out my 05CTD and will be going with springs... . just gotta find the right ones, whether its D25, Kore or Lorenz.

I just put the spacers on my truck, bought them from summitracing.com and they have leveled the truck nicely and also, with the stock springs the ride is exactly the same, only, I do not bottom out over speed bumps like I used to. I will add the Bilstein shocks after I get back from deployment, but that did everything I wanted them to do, for not too much money and it took exactly two hours to install them.

The shocks also seem to work a little better with the truck up a touch higher, but I am sure that is in my head. Scotty

What made you hate spacers? Just wondering, I have them and cannot tell a difference in ride, other than the truck does not bottom out anymore? Scotty

Sberetz... On my 01 gasser, one side sat a little lower then the other, it was fine in the beginging, but when I traded it in, it looked like the front was sitting lower-so I don't know if it made the springs wear out. I had alot of front end problems, whether it was the spacers or just wear and tear, i'll never know. I'm probably leaning towards the D25 springs sinve my funds just got a little less now.

Just got my new 2007 3500 and I just don't like how low the front end sits. Does anyone have any opinions on leveling spacers? Polyurethane vs. steel? Any particular brands? I've seen some manufacturer's install instructions and some say they can be installed by letting the front axle hang down, others say a spring compressor should be used, some state to disconnect sway bar. What effect does it have on steering? Should an allignment be done after?

Thanks

I didn't use a spring compressor on mine, I just jacked the truck up as high as I could, then I used jackstands to support the truck by the frame. Then I used two jack to lift the axle a little and unbolted the sway bar, passenger side brake line bracket, and the track bar, pulled the springs out and put the spacers in place. Then I put the tops in first then shoved the bottoms in.

Mine had zero effect on steering and an alignment wasn't needed in my opinion. Truck drives exactly the same in mind. Worth the hundred bucks my wife spent. Scotty

I used the 1 5/8" metal spacers on mine for about 2 years and had no problems. They were the ones sold on E-Bay by a couple of different sellers. I only removed them because I installed a lift. Very easy to install and if you stay under 2", you won't need new shocks or a track bar bracket or adjustable track bar. I would tend to steer clear of the poly types. It's alot of weight for them to handle. Some people have problems with them, some don't. If your only goal is to level it, then I would strongly consider the KORE HD leveling kit. If you want some more lift, then there are WAY too many options for this thread.

And yes, you should align it after install. A 2" leveling spacer will throw your front axle to the passenger side just slightly; maybe 1/2" - 3/4". If you use 12. 5" tires, you will notice they will rub more on your control arms when you turn left at full lock.

When I pulled my springs with rancho 2'' spacers out the coils had a very pronounced curve. I have no idea how much more life they had but I felt much better installing new coils and leaving the spacers on the shelf. That being said,I have some 2" spacers available.
