It is not required, but it will make you life alot easier. If you don't have it you will have to unbolt the trac bar and pry the front end down as far as you can and then force the spring in. At least that was my experience.
Just installed my 2" leveling kit a couple of weeks ago. Mine was a RevTec kit. The coil spring compressor is a must! I also crushed a 2 and 1/2 ton sport utility jack in the process. Make sure you have a jack with a plenty wide base and some beefie jack stands. I also recommend a piece of hose and a hoes clamp right next to the top part of the coil spring compressor so it dose not spin off (I am speaking from experience!) The install was pretty easy. Probably took about 2 or 21/2 hrs. No special tool besides the coil spring compressor and I believe Advance Auto Parts has a tool rental. You just pay the price of the tool ($50) and as long as you bring it back you get a full refund. Good luck!

Since you have a 4x2 I don't know if you need one or not. I do not condone this method but I have used it before and it works.
Jack the truck by the axel/a arm until it just starts to come off the ground. The spring is now compressed. You can then put baling wire around it in 6 or 7 places. This will keep it compressed. Just keep in mind that it will be a loaded gun once removed and should be treated as such. Then let the axel/control arm down. Do this slowiy to be sure the wire is going to hold. Take out the spring and set it down ever so gently. Get your spacers ready and reinstall. Jack the axel/A arm up until the spring is tight. Cut the baling wire loose and pull it out. Again this is strictly the shadetree mechanic/Arkansas method and should be used at your own risk.
