Does anyone have a lead on an "other than" stock replacement sockets?

I replaced the POS stock "melted" sockets about 6 months ago with new from Dodge units only to find one melted and worthless yesterday.

#@$%!

hope this helps had same problem this last month another tdr member gave me this. . make sure you say internet parts/sales. this saved me 75. 00 compared to my local dealer. this is a dodge/dealership just does internet sales cheap. I got 2 new wireharnesses which include the rubber sockets. sent to my house for 23. 00 or 25. 00$ this next time around I put dial-elect grease in the bulb. I think my socket more likely dryrotted from heat which lead to it melting.

Checked out Mopar 4 less They are a Dodge dealer That sells parts very inexpensively.

Why not replace the bulb with a LED bulb? That will take care of the heat problem.

LansShark - Thanks!!!

I recalled reading about this (LED Bulb) here before and this would probably be the way to go, this time around with the new sockets. Do you have a part number for the LEDs / are they available in local parts places or thru an on-line only? Please, if you have please provide some info so I can try to locate and get correct lamps.

Look in your user manual or maybe on one of the old bulbs. You could even look in one of the bulb reference manuals at your local parts store. They are a common size. Then go to www.autolumination.com Tail Light Brake Light Turn Signal LED Bulbs and find that same bulb number. That site sells tons of LED bulbs. You may actually find them at your parts store (Autozone carries some). They may be a bit more $, but you don't have shipping involved.

I've been replacing many of my bulbs with LEDs. Turn signals, interior lights (the one in the cubby in the dash on 5 speeds like mine are another that overheats), glove box, etc.

The only problem with LEDs are that heat kills them. They don't generate any, but in hot applications like the engine compartment (or over driving them with improper voltage) will kill them. But mine have been working great in my license plate lights.

How 'bout a surface mount LED lamp viz - marine supply store?? I'm planning to engineer a storage bumper and will try to use such for the LP.
