GM and Ford to merge?

Max tire size on Jeep Grand Cherokee

Well, in about an hour I am going up to the county courthouse to be sworn in as a Police Officer for my town. I have always wanted to be a police officer, but always felt that some of my past transgressions would be a little too hard to overcome (nothing major - some bad checks a few years ago and some speeding tickets). But my wifes family is dominated by Law Enforcement types and they just kept ecouraging me and so I went for it.

I will be leaving for the Police Academy on Sunday. It is 12 weeks, I do get to come home on weekends though which is going to be very important as my wife is now 37 weeks pregnant with our first child. They have made arrangements for me to leave when it is time for the baby and if I need to go back and make up time I can next spring with the next class.

The other bonus is the ambulance I am working for now in the same town still wants my services on a PRN basis and will pay to keep my Paramedic license up. So I am able to keep another important part of my life intact as well.

I just feel really blessed by all that has happened recently and I feel like I am on top of the world. Oo. Oo. Oo. Oo. Oo. Bonus in it all is that we were about to lose another one of our Paramedics at the ambulance because he wanted to be full-time and had accepted a job offer in Minnesota, but now he is able to stay to take on my former full-time duties, so it has really been an all around blessing.

I just wanted to share with someone since I am sitting home alone while the wife is at school and most of my firends are at work.

Best of luck to you during your next 12 weeks, the weekends will be some much needed down time. Good to see they are working with you being home for the baby. I was lucky when I was in the Coast Guard to be home for both of ours  It'll be something to always remember Oo. Hope you have a safe and rewarding career in law enforcement :)

Thanks for the replies guys. I am really looking forward to it. I think the best part is it seems to be a real common cents type of department, very aggressive in getting out in the community and doing alot but at the same time working the compliance instead of punishement angle. Very willing to go with verbals and written warnings especially if it is not major offenses and not repeat ofenders. Plus having worked the streets here off and on since '99 I know the area very well, and have worked with alot of the same people and officers, so I think it will be a pretty smooth transition.

Also with me already being friends with alot of the officers and them already telling me they will be watching out for my wife while she is getting through these last stages of her pregnancy, it makes me feel alot more comfortable about having to be three hours away.

Good luck CM. I've been one for 14 years but I'll spare you any advice as I've found that it usually goes in one ear and out the other with most people. Best they find out for themselves about this job.

Again, good luck and most of all stay safe.

Jon,

Hey, congratulations. It's a fortunate man who can support his family doing a job that he enjoys! ;)

So, what's the new handle since Cowboy Medic won't really fit any more? How about Cowboy Cop? :-laf

I'm going to give you the best advice I ever got from a grizzled old sergeant when I first started. Whatever it is you're doing you need to be writing the report in you head. If you don't want to write it down ,don't do it.
