Fuel brands and mileage

I finally talked my die hard Ford buddy into buying a new Cummins powered 3500. He was on his second set of brakes on his crew cab dually F-350 and had 38,000 miles. Ford said "we are terribly sorry about your bad luck. You are 2,000 miles over your warranty. " They then quoted quoted him like $2,500 to replace the rotors, calipers and pads. He said no thanks and walked out. Then called me and asked what I thought and asked me how much down time a really had with mine. I told hime, you have seen my truck every day since I have bought it. It now has 95,000 miles on it. It has never seen the inside of the dealers garage. His next question was," where can I look at some dually's?" I sent him to a dealer about 50 miles away that had ten. I get the call 1-1/2 hours later. He is the proud new owner of a 2003 SLT longbed 4X4 3500 dually. I was so proud. This guy was die hard, I never thought I would break through to him!. And he admits that he loves it already. :D

Congrats! :D Now you'll Oo. whenever you talk to him about his new truck, and he'll be thankful to you (and indebted! ;) ).

I was able to do much the same with my roommate last year. He was die-hard Ford PSD guy. I'll admit, the ones he was looking at (6" lifts, 35's, basically new) were very nice and cool looking, but they just aren't a Cummins. I finally had to let him drive my Cummins, and that just doesn't happen to anybody (only two other buddies are allowed to drive it, including him now that he owns one... heck, my Dad isn't allowed to drive my pickup! :) ). Well, after he drove it I think he started thinking more and more about it... he still window-shopped the PSD's, but he started looking more and more at the CTD's... Finally in July I got a call from him telling me he already had the deal made, but wanted to make sure I thought the '03's were ok before he signed the papers... . Now he rolls around in a sweet '03 2500 CTD that is stock for now... he's more into the looks then the power, so a 6" lift is in the works and probably just an EZ... any way he goes he'll be ****tin' diamonds so it's really a mute point.

Tell him to put an exhaust brake on it so he'll never have to worry about the brakes. I have about 117,000 miles on my truck ('97 4X4 5-speed) and I still have plenty of wear left on the original brakes! Why? Because I'm in the habit of always using the exhaust brake whenever I'm slowing down for a red light, getting off the freeway, going down hills, etc. I keep reaching for the switch on the shift lever when I'm driving my Honda, and I have to remind myself, "Oh, that's right, there's no exhaust brake on this car!"

Exhaust brakes should be standard equipment on these trucks!
