how much lift do i need to run 285 75 16 i was thinking 4 inch but i dont wana lift it any higher than i have to i have 265s on it now and they hardly fit under . also are the lift kits les schwab sells any good i dont know what brand they are they cum with shocks and leaf springs and blocks they want eleven hundred dollars for the 4 inch installed . thanks for any advice

If you put that much lift kit on your truck, you may wind up with U joints and ball joints problems down the road.

When my dad had my current truck he ran 285s on the stock rims with no lift, I don't remember it ever rubbing or anything. I would think that 2" should be all you need, or maybe just a little fender trimming at the rear edge of the front fender.

I would personally shy away from a 4" lift that had rear blocks, you already have 3" blocks, possibly 6" (my 93 has the 6" ones)

my springs must be shot because my 265s rub the fenders half the time theres maybe a quarter inch between the tire and fenders

2. 5 inch lift springs will be what works best IMHO. You will get increased travel and a more compliant ride as well

Nobody that I have found makes a kit for our 2wd Dodges. `94 and up have them, but not us. I've got a gasser 1/2 ton that I put 1 ton coils in to lift about an inch (a little off the top was cut. the lift comes from the spring rate). For the 80's gassers, the 1 ton springs were a good two inches taller than 1/2 and 3/4 coils, for what that's worth.

My 93 is 2wd, is there any way to lift my truck besides just leveling it with daystar spacers?

BTW, what are these Daystar spacers you speak of? I don't seem them on their site.

JHumppries, wouldnt that make the truck ride rougher though?

the daystar spacers are for like a 98 chevy, ive talked to others on this forum and other dodge forums, ill look and find the part number they say fits

I have 295/75R16s on my '92 with no lift without rubbing around town (I don't wheel it, so I don't know if I'd run into problems with it flexed out). I do have a flatbed, though, so I don't know if the rear would be a problem when loaded.

The Skyjacker kits for our trucks look pretty nice. The D492CDKS kit has 4" springs for the front, and a combo of 6" springs and a 2" block to lift the rear 2. 5" inches over stock (after taking out the 6" factory blocks, of course). Skyjacker says you should be able to clear 35s with that kit.

If you're planning on sticking with 285s, you'd probably be fine with a 1" or 2" kit to replace those tired springs and level it out a bit.

Since our 1st gens don't have ball joints, I don't think he has to worry too much about those wearing prematurely. ;)

Axle u-joints and kingpins won't be affected by a lift. Big tires, yes... big lift, they could care less. Steering geometry would be a concern with taller lifts. I'm not sure how bad a 4" would be on the stock setup, but I'm planning on converting to crossover when I lift mine, anyway. Driveshaft u-joints would be an issue with taller lifts, too, but they'd have to be really tall to cause any serious issues... our wheelbase is long enough that driveshaft angles shouldn't be a problem with reasonable lifts.

We just put 285/75/16's on the '93. We have Skyjacker leveling springs on the front which raised the front of the truck 2 inches. The springs improved the ride of the truck quite a bit. They are "soft ride" springs. With the 285's, the truck looks great. I think the 285s are as big as I'd go to maintain proper clearance even with the leveling springs. I'll get some pics tomorrow with the new 285's.

If I remember correctly, the Skyjacker part number for the 2 leaf spring replacements is D400CS. It's a 4 inch lift for gassers and 2 inches for CTDs. The photo in my sig is with the leveling kit and 265's.

Here it is with the new 285's:

It was on the truck when we bought the truck. I looked on the guard to see if there is a brand stamped on it, but there isn't anything. Sorry.
