I tell ya, when it rains it pours. Starting a new job, low pay, new kid due in April, buying a new house set to close next week... and the truck breaks. I had a new lift pump put in last Jan, and wouldnt you know it, 17 days after the warrenty goes, so does the pump, along with the injector pump. Dealer wants 4 g's to fix it. I dont have the time or money to fix it now, but need the vehicle to get around. Im not anywhere as skilled as anyone on this board at fixing the truck. Is this something that can be done at home, or am I better of finding the money and paying the *******? Also, anyone know a better, MORE RELIABLE WAY TO GET THIS DANG THING FIXED, cause I dont wanna dish out this kinda money every year. This is rediculous. The reason I bought this truck was its supposed reliability and longevity. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Im stranded till I get a fix.

I feel for ya just had the same thing happen hopefully someone from houston will reply to you on here. But a new injection pump and pusher pump kit should be around half the dealer price installed at a independent shop there in houston. If you know someone who is mechanically inclined and could install one then you should google Industrial Injection they have everything you need there, you should get into a rebuilt VP44 for around 1,000. 00

First thing you need after the repair is a fuel pressure guage to montior the pressure that way you will know when the LP is going south. I have replaced the LP once and it is pretty straight forward only takes about 30min some can do it faster. The VP44 (injector pump)I have not done yet so far mine is holding up, knock on wood. The VP44 replacement from what I have heard is not that difficult but takes time.

You can get LP from vendors here and I would not suggest the in tank replacement due to some reporting very low pressures at idle and full throttle. You should see 13-15psi at idle and no less than 5psi at full throttle. The in tank replacements most report that the pressure drops to almost zero under full throttle and around 8-10psi at idle. One reason for the VP44 failure is poor or low fuel pressure. There are alot of different after market pumps out there some can be costly. Genos sells a LP relocation kit that allows you to place the LP on the frame close to the fuel tank. By relocating the LP it becomes a pusher rather than a puller which is what is better suited for. There are VP's available from vendors here for under $1500.

Get you a new VP44, a new LP and a fuel pressure guage and I would suggest the relocation kit from Genos as well. You can do the replacement yourself just take your time. You could also sheck Genos for a service manual for your year model, they sell the same ones used by Dodge mech. at the dealership. The manual has all the how to's in it and very detailed information about any maintanance. All of this could be had for around $1600-1700 give or take. There are alot of members here that have done the VP44 swap that I am sure will chime in and be able to tell ya more about it.

Good luck, Scott
