Hi all,

I was talking to my neighbor about trucks and mentioned to him that I had changed the lift pump on mine due to low pressure. He's not a TDR member and gave me the 'deer in the headlights' look, so I suggested we check the pressure on his. He had about 15 at idle and it would drop to 6 or so just reving the engine in the driveway, not even driving. On the road at WOT it was less than 4, so I told him that if it was my truck I'd replace the lift pump to get the pressures up.

He bought a new pump from cummins and we changed it out w/ no problems. The thing is after changing it out the pressure measures the exact same as before, so now I feel like I told him to change something that he didn't need to change. It was the newest part number that I got from here on the TDR.

My question is can anyone offer any opinions as to why the new pump wouldn't do any better than this?

His truck is an '01 3500 4x4 ETH that has RV injectors in it. Other than the RV's it's completely stock.

Thanks,

Mike

i replaced my stock pump a few months ago with a new one, and only got 1300 miles out of it before it went bad. it was replaced under Carters warrenty. so i would say that it is possible to get a bad one out of the box.

It's definately possible to get one bad right out of the box, but it doesn't seem to happen as often now as it used to. TST used to get lots of bad ones out of the box. Another possibility is that he just has a clogged fuel filter. When is the last time he changed his fuel filter?

Sorry, should have included that in the first post. We changed the filter once we got the first low readings, then retested and decided to get a new pump.

Just so that I feel better, an ETH with 275's and some kind of boost fooler *should not* draw enough fuel to pull a good lift pump down this low, correct?

Thanks,

Mike
