I have a 1999 CTD with 90,000 miles on it. I've had an Edge EZ on it for the last 50,000 miles. I've had the fuel pressure checked a couple of times and it was fine, but now I'm worried. My buddy with a bone stock 2001 CTD had his lift pump die and take out the VP44 at 110,000 miles.

Should I bite the bullet and just replace it? What seems to be the typical life of the lift pump in mildly modified trucks?

Has Carter ever improved the design? Dodge nows shows something like the third superceded part number for the pump.

I would install a fuel pressure gauge in the truck, that way you can monitor it constantly and see how the LP is doing. This will be better than just replacing it because you are scared it might be bad.
