Is it common for a lift pump to die after replacing the fuel filter?

Replaced filter, now the truck will not start. When I first bump started the truck, FP indicated about 11lbs. On subsequent bumps, nothing. Switched gauge to inlet side, nothing. Removed the fuel bowl and it is only about 1/2 full of fuel. Should it not be full?

Sounds like it was on it's way out, and it's really apparent now during the process of changing the filter. I discovered my lift pump wasn't working at all during a filter change.

While the pump is running, I'd crack open one of the banjos or open one of the schrader valves to let the air out of the system. I've had some trouble with it not wanting to fill completely while you had air in the fuel canister, once you get the air out it fills right up.



But it is possible you have a bad pump, that seems to be when a lot of people find out theirs isn't working.

Replaced pump, now waiting til Cummins gets the wiring harness in to fire her up.

Just for clarification, your pump will still pump, it just won't self prime. Most people find out they have a weak lp this way, I used to slightly pressurize the tank to get mine to prime. Once it was primed I would get about 11-12psi at idle, but at wot it was 0psi. That was lp #2, #3 seems to be holding at 15psi idle and about 7-8 at wot.
