The other day I do a normal oil and filter change, plus fuel filter, everything goes normal. I go get a coffee afterwards and the truck stumbles on the way, dies, then starts back up, runs with no problem for 2 days. Figure it's no big deal at this point, probably some air in the line. Leaving work the other day, the truck loses power all of a sudden, dies, and will not restart. Leaves codes 0148 and 0628. Figure its a bad lift pump. Gets towed into the local dealership, where the next day they tell me my PCM is toast!!! $2660 for a new one!!! Luckily under the 7/70, (25K on my truck now), it gets replaced. Today they call me up and tell me the lift pump is bad, now they have to do the in-tank pump TSB, which I don't really want. Further, they told me that when the lift pump goes down, it takes out the PCM! I find this rather hard to believe. My truck is stock other than the Smarty on level 3. Any ideas? Was the lift pump the only problem? I thought when I got rid of my 2001 the lift pump problems went away...

When my filter mounted LP took a dump, the computer was fine... still is. I'd say it was just a LP to begin with, kinda how mine went out. Couple stalls, starts up, loses power, then nothing at all. Most people here favor the in tank , unless they are running a GDP or FASS.

Insane. Think about how many PC's or laptops that would buy you. All it is, is a flexible printed circuit (they fold it to fit in the case), less complicated than a motherboard. It has a few power transistors, which control the injectors, lift pump, and some other relays.

I agree with the above statement, that it probably never was the PCM in the first place.

That's what I was thinking. I figured some other code would be thrown for something as big as the PCM getting trashed. I would love to have the old PCM back to have it tested, but I think its got to go back with the warranty claim. Funny thing is that last week I was contemplating getting the Glacier fuel pump system. Now I'll have to drop the tank and remove the in-tank pump to put another system on it.
