Just got done installing fuel pressure gauge on one of the two ports on top of my fuel filter cap. Upon trying to prime the system the fuel filter bowl will not fill. Cycled key 10+ times and still no fuel at top of housing. Manually filled the filter... cracked 4 injection lines... crank crank crank... and finally started. Reopened test port to see if pressure/fuel was present. No fuel running out of ports while uncapped, engine running. Do i need a new lift pump or is it possible that the pump has lost prime enough to make it not work.

I'd bet you have no fuel pressure. That is exactly how I found my first stock LP was dead. If you are out of warrenty save your time and order an aftermarket system, FASS is the way I went and I'm happy. 20PSI at idle and 16-17 WOT.

Do it quick before you have to change your VP!!!!!!

Yep had same problem on my '02 when I installed my fp gauge. Come to find out the lp had died. I replaced it with the recommended pump from cummins and pressures are great. Luckily no damage to VP. Now I'm saving for a FASS system so I don't have to worry about it :)

Sounds like a bad lift pump. . Last year I put gauges on my truck and found there was only 8psi so I replaced the pump, now it's up to 15psi. They say this can wipe out the VP44 so I'd replace it asap.

If you bump the starter and you can't here the lift pump, check your electrical connection, retry, still no noise from lift pump, replace lift pump.
