Hey guys I'm new to TDR so any help would be greatly appreciated.

I recently purchased my truck with 140k+ mi and I've heard all the horror stories with lift and injection pumps. From my understanding, when the lift pump starts to lose pressure it starves the VP44 and therefore causes the VP44 to take a dump. Is this right?

If so, then I think the best insurance for my truck would to be able to check the fuel press. Please give me your thoughts on this. I would like to install a 3 gauge pod with Pyro/Boost/Fuel Press. so I can keep an eye on my vitals. Where is the best place to read the fuel press. Any info and diagrams would be great. Thanks a lot.

I am adding a mechanical gauge in the cab for the fuel pressure this weekend. I ordered some metric to -an adapters some 90's and some braided stainless line with a fuel pressure gauge port. I am going to replace the line from the fuel filter to the injection pump with the braided stainless and use the fuel pressure gauge adapter with a needle valve to feed my gauge. There are cheaper ways to go like using a grease gun hose from the test port on the vp-44, splicing into the rubber portion of the line from the vp-44 to the filter with a fuel pressure gauge adapter or tapping into the top of the filter housing. I liked the idea of getting rid of some of those banjos and having a valve to shut off the fuel to the gauge if I ever have to. IMO this is the best place to read fuel pressure because it is what the pump is actually seeing.

Black Smoker is correct about where to measure the fuel pressure. I've been using a grease gun hose from Geno's feed pressure to my Westach sender. The pulsing in the pressure at the pump can be hard on sending units. The rubber hose may help dampent the pulses. 20k on my sender & all's well.

I agree that the input to the VP44 is the best place to get your reading, since it's beyond the filter and in front of the part your concerned about. The method of attaching the gauge is up to you, I like the "grease gun" hose method. Genos Garage has a nice setup that screws right onto the Schrader valve...

I've heard a lot of talk about Geno's Garage-how do I contact them to purchase the setup that you talk about. Is there a website? Thanks

I visited Geno's website and found lots of great stuff. I see that there is a kit for the 98-99 trucks but it says to be creative when mounting on newer trucks-? Then I saw the 18" fuel line and I've heard about the banjo bolts. I need to know exactly what I need to buy to make a FP guage work. Thanks a lot.

The "creative" mounting of the sender isn't to tough. I used a piece of scrap aluminum about 1x6x1/8. I drilled 2 holes for mounting screws to the throttle lever cover & one for the sending unit. The 18" line screws right to the Schrader valve on the VP44. Geno's includes a good instruction sheet with photos. With this set up, you don't need the new banjo bolt.
