Don't feel too bad if your $139. 00 Cummins Lift Pump goes bad. The fuel pump in my wife's Tahoe went out @ 65K $265 for the pump & 5Hrs Labor @ $65Hr to drop the tank & put it in.

Makes the 30 min so for our DIY job seem like a deal!

Don't Feel Bad

No feel bad if you change out a perfectly good lift pump because you boost sensor goes out.

I thought I was slick and doing the right thing in changing out the pump but when I put in the 2 hours in changing it I drove the truck and it was no better.

Took it to Cummins and they said the boost/map sesor is bad they change it out and took them a hole 25 minutes.

They even checked the old lift pump for me and said it was fine,

So I now have a spare lift pump if I need it. ;)

Not so dumb now:D

TKilgore, It's pretty noticeable when it goes out you wont have any boost on the bottom end. The boost will not come in until about 2200rpms. , and trust me without that boost you wont have any power off the line. I tried to pull my camper with the bad sesor and it sucked. I have anouther one going bad right now and pull the goose neck with 13 round bales on it Monday and I guess I created enough manifold pressure that the sensor came unstuck because it's working now but my new one will be in tonight. I will run the old one till it craps out again then put the new one in. It only takes about 30 minutes to change, the only thing you need is an 1 1/4' deep barrel socket. If you need the part number let me know and I'll get it for you.

Part Number

Yes, please let me know the part number and the price you paid if you don't mind. I have noticed my boost does not come up until I hit it pretty hard and my towing power has fallen off. All my clamps and manifolds are tight and the filter is new, air and fuel, I also have a new lift pump and plenty of FP. Thanks for the info, you might have just solved my problem.

Tom

Edit... just noticed you have a 99. I will compare P/N you post against what the dealer or cummins says.

If you had to pay that much to have the Tahoe in-the-tank fuel pump replaced... ... you've been ripped off! Friend just yesterday had his replaced in his chevy truck (same pump and in-the-tank). His bill was only $285. 00, labor included. I believe I would check with another dealership and get the rates applicable to this work. Sounds like someone pressed the "hours worked" button too many times :( Good luck!!
