I'm sure there is lots written about this, etc. But I am still ignorant about the location of my delinqent lift pump, and am trying to get ready to go on a 5000 trip and I want to install my new lift pump that I put on the shelf. Is it on the top of the fuel tank or underneath the hood by the fuel filter canister??? Can anyone help with this ignoramus question??? I want to change it out before I leave. . . I have the new appropriate one I bought from Cummins about a month ago.

THANK YOU

THANK YOU TOWPRO!!! I appreciate your reply (In a most timely manner I might add) and your disertation on changing out the lift pump. Most informative!! Thanks again!!

I just got done changing my bad lift pump. I don't know if your filter housing is the same as mine but two bolts and two rubber hose fittings you can wiggle off when you get the housing loose and your whole filter cannister is outa the picture. This made it much easier for me to access and see the p. o. s. lift pump. I really think Dodge mechanics should be reading these posts, their service manual tells them to go at it from the bottom- removing the starter to access it! WTF? Good luck- its a breeze!

It does make it easier to change out the lift pump if you completely remove the short fuel line between the filter canister and the lift pump. Don't drop the banjo gaskets. I did mine from the top without removing the filter canister, although it wouldn't hurt to remove the canister and change out the filter at the same time. It's no big deal. While you're in there, why not change to higher-flow banjo bolts? Every bit helps!

at 52 cents per washer- let em fall! As preventative maintenance they should be chucked anyway. But i guess its good practice for putting the new ones in- not to drop them that is. Bigger banjo bolts? Are they custom?

What is even easier is to move the pump back by the tank. I can change my lift pump in about 10 minutes... :D

Thanks again for the education!

 And I appreciate the tips and the other angles . Can't do it untill tomorrow afternoon. It'll be a breeze with all your help, especially TOWPRO; THANK YOU!!!!, and I'll consider moving the pump.
