Does the lift pump get noisy wheh it is crapping out? I have 34,000 mi. I checked the pressures with a test guage about a month ago. 12psi idle, 8 at cruise, 4 at W. O. T. It seems to be getting noisier when you tick the starter and it runs for the 30 second cycle. Chris

Based on the 8 psi minimum at WFO, I'd replace it if I were you. It's not a matter of if, but rather when yours will go out.

Do you think that I am harming the VP 44 at cruise pressures? I'm taking a 200 mile trip today. Tha truck is going in to DC in a week for the last of the warranty work. Chris

P. S. duane, what does WFO mean?

WFO (Wide Friggin' Open) means the same as WOT or Wide Open Throttle... sorry about that.

As far as harm being done, I doubt you'll seriously harm the VP44 as long as you don't run it hard. The VP44 needs a minimum of 8psi according to DC's STAR Line, and anything below that warrants a replacement as long as the truck is under warranty.

I wouldn't wait too long though, better safe than sorry. I'd much rather replace a $140-160 part than a $1350+ part. Even more so if it's still under warranty.

Thanks,duane... I like that:D . I am running less than 8psi at W. F. O. Wife, daughter and I put 250 miles going to the San Jauquin Valley today to go to the Indian casinos. Left a few bucks, drove another 35 miles to a Cattlemans Steak house... MMMMMM. My truck ran so good. Edge set on low. Wasn't anyone on any hill or straight that I couldn't SAFELY pass with lots of room to spare. Even my Wife commented how good the truck ran. 34,000 mi on it and it runs like a train!! Chris

Motorhead,

I replaced mine at 36,000 and it was very loud compared to the new one. now I can't hear it run before startup unless I'm under the hood.

These trucks ARE awesome. Even when mildly BOMB'ed like you and I are, they're quite powerful and will surprise you (and a few riceburners).

Get that lift pump replaced and enjoy all that performance with a little more peace of mind...
