Is it possible that my Lift pump is OK and my Injection Pump bad?

I was having some issues with lack of power and pulsing on my way up Vail Pass and the western approach to the Eisenhower Tunnel on I-70 Friday night. I was running empty without a trailer.

I checked for codes when I got home and found I had 2 error codes. I had 1693 and 0216. These are the same codes I had back at 42,000 miles when I had my first Lift Pump and Injection Pump combo replaced under warranty.

I am at 85,000 now and I am worried my lift pump is cutting in and out and caused my Injection Pump to fail. Is it possible the service tech is testing the Lift Pump when it just happens to be working.

Is a lift pump failure a on a again off again thing or is it once it's dead it's toast?

I also figure the next lift pump or injection pump is going to be on my nickle so I want to find out if they should do the Lift Pump along with the Injection Pump

I want to know if anyone else's Injection Pump has failed with out the lift pump going bad?

Comments?

Suggestions?

I already have a Fuel Pressure Gauge kit but it's still in the box. I was worried about any mods until after 100,000.

Looks like I have a weekend project.

Thanks

Well,

I picked up my truck with a shiny new injector pump fully covered by my 5yr/100,000 warranty no questions asked. The service writer said the tech was gone for the day so I did not get a chance to ask him any questions.

According to the notes on my receipt.

"tested transfer pump output 52 oz / 25 sec - OK"

Any idea how this compares to a new pump or a failing pump?

Also of note.

"inspected for fuel system tampering - none"

Are they looking for mods?

Looks like a weekend for a fuel pressure gauge project.

Yes, they are looking for mods or any other tampering with the fuel system. It was a pain for me to get them to replace my injection pump. they are pretty protective of that stuff. They don't want to pay for something that may have been the owners fault. I just put my Edge comp on so i am planning on paying for work for the next 40k miles.

I spent quite a bit of time on the phone with a very reputable injection shop that builds Hot Rod pumps and stock pumps before making my purchase today. Based on our conversation this gentleman says that a very high majority he has seen go out have issues other than fuel/lubricity issues. Quite freqyuently they are electrical issues tied to aftermarket performance boxes. No time to write the details now, gotta get back to work. Just found his knowledge very enlightening.
