I changed my fuel filter today and installed a new filter canister cap to install a pressure sensor. When I bumped the starter to fill the filter the lift pump did not run. Do they just quit working sometimes? This is an 01 and they do have a problem but all of a sudden? I need to figure this out as I was leaving on a trip on Sunday.

It may have been dieing before and you didn't know it. Check power to it and it it is there you have to get a new one. Cummins is the cheapest.

Stebbyron,

To answer your question directly: yes, they do just die suddenly. Consider yourself lucky it happened in your driveway, just like mine did. I was doing the fuel pressure gauge install and a fuel filter change and when I was all buttoned up and ready to try it... . nothing. DOA. Because I didn't have the FP gauge hooked up prior, I don't know if it was dying a slow death or not and finally went belly up one sunny day, but given how my second one died, my guess it I just got lucky.
