I keep reading about lift pump problems and was wondering is it just a bad design, sucking instead if pushing or does this model just suck! No pun intended. Do they plan on making a pump that will have a better reliablility rate in the current configuration or do we just have to keep replacing them. I guess what i'm getting at are the new lift pumps more reliable? I hate the fact that when i start my modest bombing i have to take off my new bombs to get warranty work done.

Thanks, Jeff

Te new ones are suppose to be better, time will tell. The marjor problem, as you stated is location, but they seem to be sensitive to particules in the fuel also. Cummins sells the pumps for about 150$ so depending on how much your time is worth, all lot of the guys just replace them when they go and keep the stealer out of their trucks.

My lift pump show very low pressure at 24k in my 2001. I replaced it myself with a mallory. It cost me about $250 for pump and parts. It only took about a hour to put in. And I still have my stock pump that can be easly put back in line in a emergancy. Great pressure and I have heard thay get longer life then the lift pump by far. Thay are also rebuildable. A dealer need to have my truck for 2 days to warrenty my lift pumb... ... ..... way too long. Not to mention It would have taken me hours to take off my bomb's.

I gathered that from the posts I had read. How long are you getting out of a set of brushes? I have ran holleys in the past and got may years from brushes. So I would think that the mallory would do atleast comparable.

So is the mallory lift pump a replacement for the stock pump? The reason i"m asking i don't want to replace it every 20K. Does it mount up in the same spot? It seems to me with the high cost of the VP44 they'd come out with something better. Every thread i read about gauges is EGT and boost at a minumum. From what i read it should be EGT and fuel gauge with the lame reliablility rate of the OEM pump.

the mallory is not a replacement for the stock pump , only a pump from Dodge or Cummins is a replacement for stock .

you spent 30k plus on the truck , do yourself a favor and fix it right and have less worries , removing bombs for warranty work is a pain ...

the pump needs to be moved back in front of the tank , add a sheild to keep road grime off it . the only problem i see wit hthis is if you should have an injection pump failure dodge will blame it on your correctly placed lift pump . .
