I'm picking up a new lift pump today. My current pump is running about 6 to 7 lbs most of the time, 9 lbs at idle, and drops to 3 lbs at WOT.
Looking for tips or tricks on how to replace the lift pump. Don't know if this is something you replace by working under the truck, or if all of it is done from the topside. Haven't looked at it yet so don't know how difficult the swap is nor what tools a person needs.
I've got a trip to Montana this weekend and would like to replace it prior to the trip if possible. In worst case I'll take the new one along with some tools just in case. I'm really not too worried about it, but have noticed that I'm now running about 2 lbs less on average than I did last year. I just changed the fuel filter a couple weeks ago and know that isn't the problem. I think the pump is just getting old.
I'm past the 100k mark and the current pump is the second one for this truck. First one was replaced around 60k along with the injection pump under warranty. Didn't have a fuel pressure guage back then so don't really know what the lift pump was doing at that time.
