Ok, my Lift pump arrived Fed Ex today and i took it out of the box and it is in a plastic bag. Problem is the pump and bag are COVERED in diesel fuel. The threads are clean and the pump is spotless, so it does not LOOK used, but why is it soaking wet in fuel??????Is this normal. Did they pre lube it with diesel fuel?.

Has anybody got one from Cummins this way?

I want go install it now but i dont want to go to all the trouble to install a possibly used (AND DEFECTIVE) pump.

HELP!!!!!

I heard that Cummins tests their lift pumps before sending them out.

I hear this is normal, several other people have had the baggies soaked with Diesel fuel also, Probably due to Cummins testing the pumps and some fuel remaining inside of the Fuel Pump.

That's the way mine was when I picked it up at Cummins NW.

I asked the parts man and he stated that they were all pressure checked ... not to worry.

I just purchased and installed today a lift pump from Cummins. The electrical connector was different than the original on my 98. 5. Original has connector on the end of a wire leade, about 6" with the wires braded on to the pump. The new pump dated July 26, 2001 on the Cummins sticker has the electrical connector attached directly to the bottom of the pump. (Less than a week from the packaging date? Fresh one!) Installing in the original location, I had to clip the connector off and splice in some wire to lengthen it to make the electrical connection. Would have been nice if it had been supplied with an extension leade. There may be one available, so if you are replacing a pump in the original location it might be worth looking into this. Bit of a tight spot to splice wires and the tape over the original was kinda sticky to get off.

Also, my new pump was in oily plastic. Don't know if it was diesel or oil.
