I know this subject has been posted to death but it just happened to me-02 at 54,000 miles,0216 code, truck loses power at high speeds but runs fine otherwise. My question -dealer says not a warranty item. Parts dept. wants $350 for new pump. Truck has the "lowest" EZ box, the one with no adjustments. Advice anyone?

Thanks for the reply Mad Bomber. The truck runs as well as it ever did except for the one time when it slowed down while cruising at about 75mph. -which set the code 216. Will the injection pump behave like this or could it be a weak lift pump causing a lack of sufficient fuel at high speed? Anyway I was suprised to learn the lift pump was not covered under warranty and the cost of a replacement is a shock. Funny that my 92 Cummins has been going for 265000 with none of these problems!

It should be covered until 100K... . unless the dealer knows you have the Edge, then you are your own warranty station.

and the cost of a replacement is a shock.
You can get them for $130-$150 from Cummins and put it on yourself, pretty easy to do.

Also, some guys (with inj pumps on their way out) report hard starts when hot. Don't know about the high speed low power complaint, but the 0216 code is not good...

I just got my truck back form the dealer for the same problem that you are describing. This sounds like a timing problem on the injection pump and that would throw the 0216 code.

You can check your fuel pressure at WOT , but I would be willing to bet that when your pedal goes dead that the fuel pressure doesn't drop.

I have 88,000 miles on my 02 and the loss of power problem I was having when on for a couple of months. If this is an injection pump timing failure, chances are that the problem will be intermittant. I only saw the problem after cruising at highway speeds for a period of time.

If this is an injection pump failure, it is covered under warranty for 100,000 miles, but the dealer will have to get the truck to reproduce the failure. This proved to be difficult for me. I had to drive the truck for another 3 weeks before I could the truck to fail when I was close to a dealer.

Replaced Lift pump under warranty

Just had the lift pump replaced under warranty at 37,000 miles (on my purchased used Canadian truck here in Michigan). The service writer said it was part of the engine 100,000 mi warranty.

I had just added a pressure gauge (7 psi at idle, 0 under load). So I removed the 'hose' from the test port and the pressure sensor (did not want to confuse the mechanic). And told the service writer that it would sometimes hesitate under load. Two days later I had my 'baby' back with a new lift pump.

Apparenty, the warranty 'depends' upon several factors, mostly the dealer.

The truck had the "edge box" when I bought it,the lowest box-no adjustments. I want to take it off but do not know what plugs into the receptacle that is in front of the fuel filter once I unhook the "edge". The plugs in back of the filter (firewall side) just hook back together but I cannot see anything similiar for the pug in front. I don't want to give this new dealer anything to argue over-I'm going to try for a warranty fix at another place. If not I'll do it myself. Thanks for all the info so far. I hope it is not the injector pump.

There is a blank plug/ dust cover that plugs in there. Look in you door pocket and glove box for it. Or go to a different dealer and buy one. SNOKING
