is there a way to tell if your lift pump is still working without a guage? is the electric motor you hear when you bump start the truck the lift pump running? so would that mean is ok?
While hearing the pump running is a good sign... it is by no means a way of determining if the pressures are adequate. For example... if the bypass check valve is stuck open it will run and sound as if its fine. This is unless you have a very trained ear. I can tell by the tone when mine wasn't pulling fuel.
At least use a temporary gauge to test. Its the only way you'll know for sure whats going on.
It can run but have low presure. That is usally how thay fail. Which will kill the vp44. You must have a gauge. prefferaby one you can always see when your driving.
When mine went bad I would hear the buzz for a few seconds (It was 16 at that time) and then it would go to a more high pitched buzz (It dropped to 0 then). I hope that made sense. I currently I'm checking with a gauge under the hood every few days, but I am going to get in cab gauges when funds become available.
