Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) lift pump

Hi all. Just need a little info here. I searched the archieves but didnt see what i was lookin for. I recently purchased a '02 extended cab sport CTD with auto. Im concerned about the lift pump. Im getting the fuel pressure gauge asap but was wondering if the pump goes bad will the mallory 4150 replace it in line at the tank and just use that or can I use it in conjunction with the lift pump at the injection pump? Would it be a good idea to use it in conjuction? I have read about guys using the mallory but cant find info to answer my question. Where would be the best place to get the mallory at and price wise? Thanks for any info.
