I recently had my lift pump replaced (83,000 miles). Now when I first turn the key on, I hear it run for about one second. If I bump the starter but don't allow the engine to start, I can't hear the lift pump running for the 25 - 30 seconds that I am supposed to. Any ideas? I think I am going to try to take it to a dealer tomorrow morning and have them check it out. :(

Its fine, it is suppose to do this. If you let your truck sit for a while or it is cold outside it could run on its long cycle. All normal. It some times takes a little longer running to get the pressure to the injector pump. Now if it ran its long cycle everytime then something is wrong. Like a restricked fuel filter. It is good practice to listen to the truck and get the feel of what is normal and what is not. Drive with the radio off and listen to every sound it makes. You will soon know your truck and will hear warning signs before something major happens.

Most people will not notice anything untill it gets worked on. That is why after getting there car worked on they say "It never did that before. " One guy in Las Vegas had his Caddy's trans. worked on. He sued the company because he says "I can feel it shift, I never could before". He won.

Listen and feel how it drives. You will know when something is wrong.

I use to hear mine all the time when I first got the truck. I don't hear it anymore until I change my fuel filter. (10-15k) I hear it once or twice and then no more until I change the filter again. I guess its pushing the air out the system after the filter change. The first time I changed my filter, I found it down on fuel, not totally full. Now I make sure its full before I install the cap and like I said I don't hear it during normal starts. I'm sure this means there is some wear and not pushing the pressure it use to or the fuel system is air tight as it should be.
