Lift pump, sure hear a lot about it. Have a new 2001, where the hey is this lift pump? Is it like what we would call a FUEL pump? Is it on the left side of the block under the FUEL filter?? Why can't it be called a FUEL pump? That 'thing' under the FUEL filter sure LOOKS like a FUEL pump. Are we getting snobish, or is there a reason to call it what it"s called??

Yep, that the one - under the fuel filter on the driver's side of the block. Can't shed any light on the nomenclature - probably comes from Cummins as that is the way they had it listed when I bought my replacement. Since its job is just to keep a steady supply of fuel to the injection pump where it becomes REALLY pressurized, maybe they were just being descriptive??? Anybody else got a better theory?
