O. K. guys ,I think my lift pump is on it's way out. Went out to start it last night and it made a heck of a racket before it started to hum. Also fuel pressure drops to nil at w. o. t. (about 8-9 p. s. i. at idle). Which plug on the fuel filter housing is pre and which is post filter. At this point I don't think changing the fuel filter is going to help but i will try it. Is the lift pump covered under the 100k engine warranty or should I just shell out the $130 for a new one from Cummins. Also what is the part# for the latest and greatest version lift pump. thanks, Doug

Left plug is post filter, and right one is prefilter. People have been having mixed results with getting these pumps replaced under warranty. I do not remember the number off hand, but there are lots of other threads about this.

When you change your filter, look for metal fragments and shavings in the bottom of the canister. If you see this, I would change the pump or expect it to be changing it withni the next few thousand miles. If your pump decides to die, you won't be able to prime the filter after change.
