Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) lift pump

my lift pump quit on my 99 dodge. I put a new one on and when I cranked my truck two wires that are attatched to the top of my fuel filter started smoking and melted. I unplugged the wires now it leaks fuel where the wires go in. the dodge dealership said it does not have two wires in the top of it. do I need those wires or can I try to seal it off. it's not the water in fuel wires.

hello l . penton , those wires are likely the ones that go to the fuel heater . not necessary unless your in a cold place. there is a relay in the p. d. c. for the fuel heater . its location is on the inside of the cover. you can pull it until you get it repaired. hope this helps.
