Has anyone added a second filter before the lift pump or pusher/lift combo?

What results have you had?

I would think dirt would effect these little pumps greatly.

I am going to replace lift and when I do I was thinking of installing

Filter/pusher/lift!

Pump pressure at 9-10 idle, 8 cruising. 4-5 wot

Comment or thoughts?

thanks

I think it's a great idea, I would still want a filter after the lift pump though just in case the lift pump desides to spit parts.

I don't know how much volume or pressure if any would be lost to a two filter set up but it would be interesting to see. maybe someone has done this with out a pusher pump and will inform us.

I had a 10mic filter inline before my first 2 lift pumps and they both went out.

90% of my fuel comes out of a bulk tank on the farm and it also has a 10mic on it.

Besides the stock filter which is after the pump my fuel was filterd 2 times ahead of the stock lift pump and the carter I tried after that.

Now on a stock # pump and seems ok.

Filters are a good idea as long as you change them often. Otherwise you could starve the pump.

I've been running a Earl's screen type filter, pre-Mallory pump, since the first 4150 died. It's rated to filter down to 35 microns and I do see some debris in it when I remove same for a cleaning. Not sure how much it's helping the pump as I am on my 3rd Mallory now. As long as you choose a pre-filter that has a good flow rate, can't see how it will hurt anything. The Earl's is rated for 5-6 GPM, more than enough flow. I clean it every 5000 miles with brake clean.

I would think it would be an excellent idea to put one behind the pusher pumps you poor 24v lift pump killers are having to install :p All of the aftermarket lift pumps through NAPA (carter brand) recomend running a filter before the pump to keep it from sucking trash and taking a dump.
