While I was searching for deals on lift pumps, I noticed that there's two different styles of pumps.

Here's the first and one that's on my truck

Here's the other style

I've read in the searches that the second pump is the replacment for the first, is this true?

Cheers

There multible manufactures out there , that will work .
If your lift pump is tired then check your overflow valve also , the pressure should be about 28 idle - 36 2000 RPM .

The Cummins , is called Quick serve , you give the ser. # off the plat on the timing cover , & reg. on the site to get acc.
Also if you go to the home page here under buyer guide you'll find comin part # and a hole lot more .
Again you may want to fill in you truck info , this can be a big help .

I've found two part # for the second one, #3917998 and #3918000. Is there a online part # search for cummins?

Cheers

One p/n supersedes the other. It doesn't have both numbers on it though? Anyway, it is a Low Flow Piston Type Pump for an Inline Injection Pump. I believe you want a High Flow one.

Watch out for those deals on ebay, many of the lift pumps on there for cheap are p/n's that have been updated for product improvement reasons, as stated in Bulletins on Cummins Quick Serve.

I gave my CPL # when I bought a new pump at the local Cummins dealer and they sold me the second one. The problem with it is that the 90* hose between the pump and the prefilter will not work because of the taller fitting on the pump. I could not find any way to swap them and had to find enough 1/2" hose to do a loop. I was doing this after work and could not find enough 1/2" hose at any of the parts houses or big truck dealers that were open at 10:00 pm. I finally used some 1/2" air conditioning hose that the Peterbilt dealer had. It's been working OK for a little over a year.
