1.5 ton trucks

Need help with the airbags!!!

Ok ok after MUCH wasted time on the suspension, I am about two weeks out from pulling my 94 2x4 CTD and transmission out of the truck and dropping it into the limousine. What we are working with is a 1990 Lincoln Town Car Limousine, with a 97 front end on it.

I am going to build a sub-frame of tubing to hold the motor mounts, transmission mounts etc. And the stock Lincoln Core support is getting cut out just outside the headlights, and the 94 Dodge "U" shaped core support is getting installed about a foot in front of the stock lincoln location. That way all the stock Dodge hoses, radiators, intercoolers etc will fit when somthing needs tobe serviced. I am going to use hood pins to hold the hood down because the lincoln hood tie down is on the radiator support getting axed.

The exhaust is going to be tricky by my measurments. I have to remove the facotry Lincoln heater core/heater box. Good thing the limo has an AUX heater/AC unit in the back.

The physical parts aside, the wiring is next. I am plannig on using the 94 Dodge gauges, and removing ALL of the original Lincoln engine wiring. I have all the wiring diagrams for both vehicles, so that will be fun. Then to install the 94 Dodge facotry gauges, I am going to fiberglass the unit into the stock lincoln dash for now. A complete custom dash will folow after I make some money back:)

A few questions I have forgot the answer to or failed to look up: Does the 94 Dodge 2x4 CTD use the speed sensor on the transmission for the speedometer? And Besided the Engine computer on the firwall, and the transmission computer(havent looked it up yet) what other "computers" do I need? FYI: I am ase master certified and LOVE wiring, so this is not "above my head" I think. But it is alot larger then the few times I've rewired custom cars. Fun Fun Fun!

Thanks in advance

-Brandon

I will be updating this for my swap. Heres about how it sits, I am just finishing up some welding on the frame I built right now.

Redneck Prom? No no no. Not my target market. I dont think most can afford it anyways.

After 4 days without power after a massive windstorm here, I am finally welding again. I want to have the suspension under it and rolling by friday. mabye...

That's awesome!

First... The 94 transmission is an RH... . so there is very little elctrical involved. The "engine control unit" you found probably controls the Alternator and possibly the transmission. I'd check your wiring diagrams... . see what all they include.

If you have any other questions... ask away... Your best bet for information will be in the 2nd gen 12v forums... . I'd put that information in your signature. Guys will be happy to give you any info you may need!

Happy new year everyone! Mabye I'll will be out Bombing with the limo soon :). THe sub-frame for the suspension just got its last coat of paint FINALLY. This 20 degree weather puts a slow drying time on oil based paint. I am ordering all the Willwood brake parts that I dont have already this week, as well as buying 500 bucks MORE tubing. I forgot but I still have to fab the engine cradle, front bumper, rear bumper, winch mount, and dash :{. Im such a whiner. I will also be ordering a set of Autometer Phantom 2 gauges on friday after i make my credit card payment :-laf. Ill post up the pretty pitures of the frame when I wake up in 4 hours togo out to work.

Also everyone, where do I buy the small diameter blue vacuum hose? I have seen it around on peoples trucks. I will have the Mr Bobs blue hose kit, and blue wiring convalute, and blue Cold Cathode lights so I think blue vacuum line would be in order. Thanks!

Hmmmmmm  Besides the obvious WOW affect and that your target audience is not the high shool prom circuit, what are you going to be doing with this, uh, hmmm, thinnnnnnnng

Besides providing a vast hiding area for the neighborhood cats to crawl up under when you park it, what are you going to be using this thing for

My curosity is killing me with ideas Oo. none of which make any sense to me.

Josh,

I see in the background theres a Willys Parkway model. Nice!! What are you doing with it?

STeve

The was my high school car. I rebuilt the amc 304 that was in there the summer between junior and senior year and drove that everyday. Back then it had 33's and broke almost every day. Then i went to 35x16r16 boggers:) That was the best.

Now it has (half :) ) a tube frame thats not done, and its getting 404 mogs and 53'a or 44 boggers. Havent decided yet. Probably both. I have HID lights in it(think european sports cars) and one soon to be two warn 12k winchs. Its my play toy that I will never part with.

What this limo is for first and formost is to party. I am 21, love the college lifestlye, as well as the snowboard/extreme sport lifestyle I am in. In my picture pages on my website there is pictures of the smith limo. THis limousine is owned by Smith Optics(think all snowbaord/skiing goggles). My buddy Zach drive this one and another smaller lifted limo around the country to allow people to "grind" accross the rail on the roof. Then he partys every night. Hard lifestyle to get paid to do right?

Well a year ago Zach let me drive his limo around, and OMG is the only way to describe the effect you get drivng one around. EVERYONE(90% we counted) slows down and takes pictures of you when your driving it. Girls FLOCK to get in the back and get thier drink on. Its like Girls GOne WIld- Snowboard stlye.

Where I come in. I have a bunch of companys that want me to drive around with their logo's and products advertising to their market. Its extreme shock marketing. THink if your company sells hot dogs to baseball games. We wrap the limo with your logo 20 feet long 5 feet tall, and drive to a baseball game and give away your product. The limo makes EVERYONE see it and come look. Its so much fun, and works SO WELL that I have people calling me everydya to come and finish it so we can go out and party.

Did I make any sense? :) Reason #1: party. Reason #2: make money. Reason #3: snowboard for free. Thats about it.

Okay, after a little break from TDR, and the limo building in general, I am back in full force. The steering cylinder is mounted, the tube frame is welded onto the limo, the rear links are done, and the motor mounts are welded in. I have TONS left to do. Also this winter has been awesome here in Oregon. The snow has covered the 40" tires on the limo. Basically its like working on a town car thats laying frame:-laf

The week I cut up the stock dodge wiring harness, and am trying to mount my new fuse blocks in. I have to wire the harness to the stock dodge instrument cluster also. I am trying to plumb up the hydro steering system with my new braided steel lines and reusable fitting this weekend, but I have another plan. Instead of using my modded p132 steering pump, I am going to swap in a gear-driven air compressor and an industrial hydro pump. I ordered the compressor, but haven't ordered the pump yet. I also then need to call Van over at Vanco-pbs and get my Hydro-Boost system. He takes a new valve and hogs out all the passageways for high-flow hydro systems.

When we have 2 or 3 feet less snow, I will be welding up more of the suspension and the upper air-bag mounts. But for now all I can do it engine work(unless I want to tunnel to the limo undersides):D.

And work just called. I might be starting in Galveston next Monday. Can you say commute!?! Portland to Houston, then down to Galveston every month... There goes allot of my limo-building time. But the money is always good.

Thanks everyone for your help.

A few more. And the engine picture is 5 minutes after I massaged it into the engine bay. It is all crooked because it is sitting on jackstands. And yes, I did end up breaking the grille/front package area#@$%!#@$%!. I needed a new one anyway. Hopefully Friday I get my new stuff. I found the last 97 town car in the pnw to get parts fromOo. .
