My liftpump has expired like many others have experienced. I dread the thought of going to the dealer so I have decided to attempt to handle the problem myself.

To tackle this problem I was going to start at the fuel tank and work my way forward. Here are some questions I have.

1. It appears the Ram has a 5/16 fuel pickup going in the tank. Has anyone ever attempted to change this to 3/8's? I was thinking of pulling the tank and installing a bulkhead fitting by either drilling another hole or using the existing one. Also, is there a sock on the pickup in the tank?

2. Pre-screen? Would'nt some kind of pre-screen on the inlet side of the transfer pump help protect it? How much harder would the pump have to work?

3. Liftpump? What would be the best replacement for the existing pump? The pump of couse would be mounted on the frame near the tank. What is maximum pressure?

4. Fittings. I have leaped thru the page's of a Jeg's magazine and have decided to use Aeroquip hose with socketless fittings. What is the size of fitting needed to screw into the filter head and VP44?

Any help or advice would be appreciated. Gordon.

I used the aeroquip socketless hose and fittings, -8 from the tank to the factory filter, and -6 from the filter to the injection pump.

I don't remember the exact size of the fittings but if you cant find out e-mail me and i'll get that info for you.
