Ok new person here to cummins. I have a 04 Ford F650 with cummins 5. 9. 110,000 miles. I have constant light black smoke at idle, after it is warmed up, doenst do it cold, more on inital acceleration on starting up from a corner. But no smoke driving down the highway. I have done search but couldn't find anything. Is this something to worry about?

Thanks Don

I would assume its common rail?

Probably the injectors. I wouldn't worry about it, unless its still under warranty.

Run Marvel Mystery oil in every tank.

Could also be a blown High Pressure Relief valve... . I was told when this goes you lose enough pressure that the injectors don't atomize the fuel enough to be efficient. I am having the same problem with a loss of power.

Would the truck throw a code when this happens? My 05 gives a great cloud of grey smoke under WOT from a stopped position, but I can't tell for sure that there is a great loss of power. Truck is going in for the stupid weather stripping fix in a couple weeks, and if this is really a problem I would like it looked at too...

thanks... sorry for hijacking the thread.
