Light cut-out switch like Semi's use for merging

Looking for travel advice for Colorado River trek.

First Impressions!

Anyone know where to get these cut-out switches for the lights? Are there any programmable ones? I have googled the heck out of these with limited success. I have seen some of the semi's give a left turn, right turn and then a double or triple flash. Dont know if they do this manually or can program it.

The only switch I found was from dually depot, I think its a requirement for some of the RV hauling companies. If you have some info please share.

I had a set up on a previous truck that I used when transporting RV from the East Coast to the Midwest.

Really a simple set up... installed a toggle switch in the clearance light wire... flip the switch... clearance and trailer lights go off... . flip it back they are on. I believe this is the same set up on a semi.

Just and Idea!

In most cases these switches are momentary switches... but instead of being like a door bell which is a normally open switch... . they are a normally closed switch...

A NO switch is one that has no connection in the rest position, like your door bell, and the NC switch is one that has a connection in the rest position... so when you push the button you break the electrical connection... .

Most truck dealers still carry both momentary styles in NO and NC... .

Hope this helps. .

:p:p:p:p

Aw comeon SRath - - tell him the truth:-laf:-laf - - The Federal secret is - - -

if the driver uses a left - right t/signal flash, the driver is lazy, if he uses the 4 way flasher , he's real lazy - - If he flashes his markers, as every body used to do he's an OLD Time DRIVER Oo. Oo. Oo.

If you want to be like the old time drivers and flash just the clearance lights the problem really becomes isolating the clearance lights from the head/taillights. I think this is more of a problem than the switch actually to isolate the truck and trailer clearance lights.

If you pass another vehicle then remain in the fast lane for several miles or simply move back into the right lane after a period of time without using a turn signal you are a new age truck driver who probably speaks no English, takes no showers, wears a towel wrapped around his head, and eats foul smelling food items in the cab. You might be planning to bomb an American city.

Maybe I'm missing something but both my '93 and my '06 have that feature. If the light switch is off I just pull back on the turn signal stauk and the head lights go on, let go and they go off.

That's the "OK, you missed me and can bring it back. " signal.

Flashing your marker lights is the correct "Thank you!".

I just hit the emergency 4 way flashers for a couple of cycles to say thanks.

When the big rig passes ME, I turn the headlights off for a second if it is night, during the day, flash the headlights once or twice.

Don't flash the high beams at night, it can blind the driver momentarily.

Courtesy is not dead but it is on life support.

There were two companies in Elkhart, IN that provided parts and service to the RV transporter community, Dan's and Dually Depot. They are probably still in business doing the same thing. Either one of them would rig up the momentary off switch for trailer running lights if wanted. Their switches and wiring would not separate marker lights from tailights though.

This is the normal method and as I said earlier the clearance/running lights are integrated electrically with the tail lights. If you want them separate you would have to rewire them so they are separate. I know of some that have done that but like on mine would have to remove the belly covers. and rewire. I have decided for me it is not worth it.

Oh some of the new generation drivers don't look for you to flash lights and I don't think understand what it means even. I don't think they have ever driven on a 2 lane for several hundred miles when the flashing of lights could be critical as if they could get in with inches to spare to avoid head-on. All are use to 3 or 4 lanes Interstates or more I am thinking LOL.
