Light Group

We ordered three 03's all 3500 HO Cummins 4X4 Laramies with everything except side curtain air bags and rear window defroster(2 Duallys and 1 single). We waited for the "late availability" 6 disc in dash changer to become available. Kept checking in on the dodge web site, out of habit I guess, and about 10 days ago saw a new option pop up for the Laramie called "Light Group" which includes - Ash Tray Lamp, Front Dome with On/Off Switch, Underhood Lamp, Auto Dimming Rearview and Illuminated Vanity Mirrors. Since the Auto Dimming mirror was itemized in the Laramie package, I thought (hoped) that this was just a web site typo. Well the first of the 3 arrived the other day and sure enough no underhood light and no illuminated vanity mirrors (passenger side has mirror)... hard to believe that these wouldn't be standard equipment on the Loaded Laramie... Anyway, enjoying the truck, looking forward to adding the goodies and getting it to work! If you are ordering and want this stuff, make sure it pops up on your Dealer's screen because it sure didn't on ours.

Yes, I was a little disapointed (and my wife very), about the Vanity mirror(s)... . My 96' SLT has large lighted vanity mirrors on both visors... My 2003' Laramie "loaded" has one small cheesy vanity mirror on the passenger side, with no lights.

Another pizzer is the 2003' rear bumper seems smaller and more light weight than my 96' bumper, and no insulation under side of the hood.

That being said... . overall I love my new truck!

Yup. . I just got the build sheet for the truck that the dealer located for me and it too does not have the Light Group, although it is a Laramie. Oh well.

I believe it was pointed out that the light group is code AMA on the ordering sheet. It is new.

The light group does show up as an option now (in the last couple of weeks) but was not showing up as an option when we ordered (March 24)... some elements of the light group were included without option in the Laramie Package (Auto-Dimming rearview mirror and dome light) and some were not (Underhood light and illuminated vanity mirrors). My 2001 SLT had both. I was just surprised that it wasn't option that came up and yet part of the equipment was included and part wasn't... confusing. I have sent a note to DC to see if the truck was prepared for these items and if they could be purchased and added after the fact.

FYI: My Dealer and I built my truck and submitted my order on their computer on April 11th. That's when I saw the Light Group for the first time! Up till then, it sure wasn't on the public Dodge website when you "built" a (virtual) truck at home. I guess I got lucky!



I did notice that the dealer's CTD inventory did not have any hood insulation. I am encouraged to hear from Elite1, that it was available at one time. Has anyone seen a 2003 2500/3500 (new body style) with factory hood insulation? Perhaps an early production one? How about the 1/2 ton 1500, with the new body ('02 or '03)? I'd like to add it, if it would fit my 2003 properly!

Isn't it funny how those little options appear and disappear sometimes. When I ordered my 03-3500 SLT, which was just a few days before yours! 4-9-03 the light group wasn't an option, although the auto dimming mirror was, so I figured what the heck and I got it. I sure would have liked to have optioned the rest of that light group though, oh well I'm still looking forward to having a new CTD! Hopefully it comes in real soon.

I too was quite disappointed that my $40K+ truck didn't have an under the hood light or hood blanket. I've already made an inquiry to the parts dept. to see what they have available. Unfortunatly, nothing yet. Looks like the connector for the hood light is sitting my the MC though.

Since we are on the subject, does anyone know whether or not the wiring is up under the headliner for the auto dimming mirror or not, even though the truck did not come with the mirror itself?

The light group seems to be hit and miss as far as availability. When I placed my order 4/29 it was not available for order. Dealer kept checking, first time it was available 5/5 - but the truck went D1 on 5/1. He made some calls to try to get it added to the order, but no definite word. Guess I'll find out for sure when it gets here!



FYI - that option was on the Dodge site even though it was unavailable for order.

Update from DC

I couldn't get a firm response from the parts department so I contacted Daimler Chrysler (at first they sent me back to the Dealer) their response: "According to our records, your vehicle was not built prepared for installation of the lighting group "
