Don't have a clue... my new 08 5500 was sitting by the rail head in Mexico the last time we checked.....

Have you seen a 4500 or 5500 yet???

Whoa - this could be important - if these 07. 5s are having problems not being worked hard enough, and they figured out how to change engine parameters to keep these things from sooting up the turbo and plugging the particulate filter when being driven unloaded . . . I can always hope. This will probably be just enough to trick me into getting an 08 if I have to lemon my 07. 5.

While we're fantasizing...

If we're gonna hope, let's hope that any such improvements will be retro-fittable to all the '07. 5's, so NOBODY has to try the "lemon" route. :)

Certainly D/C has to seek a better solution than telling people with $40-50,000 trucks to only drive them on Tuesdays, headed West, with your mouth held just-so, and an elephant in the bed. (My elephant is getting temperamental about climbing into the bed every Tuesday. And if I get him to likin' it, then he will demand to go on any day he gets a hankerin. Can't win! ;)

not yet. . we got a letter from dcx a couple of weeks ago stating that these rigs are starting to ship

to get this thread back on track (a common problem here), I just brought my 2008 home today, and I am supposed to get an answer on the light load button tomorrow. The manual doesn't say anything really, as near as I can tell it has to do with the tire sensor (according to the not informative manual) , sales says transmission, hopefully will have an answer tomorrow. Used to work for the dealer (several years ago) and the fellow checking has several years in the business. will let you know if anybody at dodge can figure it out.

I'd suspect that the Light Load switch is intended to provide two levels of protection via the TPMS in regards to tire pressure.

If you've noticed in one of the manuals that comes with your truck, it will have two different inflation pressures specified... ... . light load and maximum load.

If the "light load" function is engaged, it most likely determines a pre-set percentage of allowable tire pressure drop from the light load recommended pressures..... anything below that predetermined level, and the light will kick on. I'd also suspect that this is front & rear specific as well.

If the "light load" function is not engaged, it most likely determines a pre-set percentage of allowable tire pressure drop from the maximum load recommended pressures..... anything below that predetermined level, and the light will kick on. I'd also suspect that this is front & rear specific as well.

I'd bet that these TPMS sysytems will also specify the location at each corner of the truck to keep everything in check.

In a nutshell, I'd bet the "light load" function is programming in nature as I don't think any tire pressure sensor could perform multiple (light load / maximum load) pressure duties.

Just my $. 03 worth {adjusted for inflation} from an ol' country boy.

"Here"?

Get out much? (into the e-world, I mean ;) )

Your observation (criticism?) is interesting.

Your post record shows that in a year and a half TDR membership this is your first post in this specific forum. Perhaps you have spent considerable "lurking" time here, thus forming your impression.

Here's a different opinion :

I have thousands of hours of inter-net time, over the past 7-8 years, on various forums related to a number of interests. ( Retired! :) )

With very infrequent lapses into attempts at humor (as in this thread), and the inevitable tangential sub-thread development (usually "on topic" in the sense that they are still truck-oriented and informative), this forum is by far the "meatiest" of the many I have participated in and visited.

I can't comment on the TDR forums in which you have mostly posted, because almost all of my time has been spent in this forum.

I have experienced nothing here that would meet my definition of a "problem".

After 7 months or so of (near steady)observation, this forum, as a whole, is without question the most self-disciplioned I have found.

Perhaps others' opinions may vary, but mine is that the membership in general can be proud of the atmosphere that has been created here. :)

I have been on 4 or 5 different forums for over the past two years (usually on a daily basis), no, I do not post much, just the things that are relevant to me, that I have a specific knowledge of and where i think i can be helpful. Sometimes i think people jump into things just to get their post count up which makes them feel all warm and fuzzy. I agree that getting off subject is common on several forums and is just the nature of the beast, i enjoy all the forums and feel the mods do a good job, we all just have our pet peeves at times. The forums have been a valuable source of information for me and have saved me lots of $$$ in bad decisions.

I may be mistaken but I seem to recall reading about tire inflation monitoring being a requirement on new vehicles in the near future... anyone else hear that? Maybe this is that future requirement in it's infancy?

The dealer called me today and the post above hit the nail on the head, for the light load switch, it is still a little vague but thats all he could find.

you are correct, this is related to the tpms, here is a scanned copy of one of the mirror hangers discussing this, and it can also be found on page 196 of the 2008 owners manual (thanks pete!)

sorry the pic looks so poor, but one should be able to copy it to their computer and blow it up... it wouldn't let me attach it in full size, or if anyone wants me to e-mail it to them, i can do that as well.

Josh

Are you saying that all new truck will have a tire monitoring system as a stock feature on them..... starting in 08.....

I have this feature in my Jeep, and would have ordered it with the 08 5500 but didn't see it listed on the options... ... .
