I have a 97 ram 3500 and i recently have had a problem with my light switch getn hot and givin me a burnin smell inside my truck. I installd a new switch an wire harness and it is still doin it. . On the old wire harness the black wire with the yellow stripe was the one that was melted. . Does any one have any idea of what could be my problem??

Had the same problem with my 95. Installed a headlight harness with relays from summit and fix the problem. There is alot of info if you search the forums.

Thanx 4 the info im gona check more into it. . Do u know why it all the sudden overheats? Ive noticed it also does it if i jus have on my parking lights. .

The full load of the headlights is routed thru the switch. I think that once it overheats and fails the first time. It will be proned to overheating again quicker because the resistance of the wire has increased because of the overheating. The harness routes the draw directly to the batteries and only uses factory wiring to activate the relays. A good under $40. 00 boom. It will solve your problem.

DP, you might want to take a closer look at the summit kit. It will only affect your headlights. If you are having trouble with the running lights overheating the switch alone I would suspect a shorted wire someplace.

yes i dim my lights an actually i noticed today the litle metal roller that does the dimming is what actually gets hott. . it just all of the sudden happend and i have no other problems that im aware of
