i don't really know where to start on this one. here are the symptoms:

with headlights on, third brake light is constantly on, but real dim. left tail light normal, right brake light lit. left blinker operates normally, but right blinker turns off dim third brake light and right brake light. no blinking on the right whatsoever.

with headlights off, everything is normal, except right blinker also makes the overhead compass/temp. blink. wha??

any ideas?

Sounds like a bad ground somewhere.

Electricity always flows from Positive to Negative (ground). If you have a bad ground connection, it will find the path of least resistance, and oftentimes that's thru another circuit.

Check all your ground connections. Don't forget Battery to motor - motor to frame - body to frame - bed to frame. Also, if you have a light receptacle for trailer hookup, check that too!

Sorry I can't get more specific, but my 2nd Gen has never had an electrical problem (but the day is young... . ).
