I have a question, How many of you guys are running lights on your rear mud flaps? For those that have, how did you run the wires? Any pics is appreciated also.

Thanks

mudflap lights

I figured id put in my 2 cents to maybe give you some ideas. I havent wired mudflaps before, but have wired heavy equipment and such.

1. Try to find durable light housings with good seal on cover.

(LED's are great, they are sealed. )

2. Put dielectric grease on all bulb/socket connections.

3. Try to find lights with both pos. and neg. wires coming out.

(Makes connection easier to waterproof)

4. Solder and shrinkwrap all electrical connections or use butt connectors that you heat and automaticly solder/seal in one shot.

5. Use good wire loom to cover all exsposed wiring.

6. Run all loom thru good loom holders.

7. Anywhere there might be movement in the harness, leave extra slack to lessen the movement or "hinging effect" of the harness.

8. Figure your power draw for all the lights you want to run and consider putting all "extra marker lights" on a seperate circiut. You dont want to run the risk of burning up a factory wiring component/ harness if you ever have a short or too high of an amp draw.

Anyway, i hope i was able to give you some good info.

lights

Sorry for the late reply,If you hav'nt put the lights on yet this is how I did mine. I got two sets of tripple DOD lights from a truck shop and drilled and bolted them onto the bottom of my 18" rubber flaps and ran the wires up the inside edge of the flap with some plastick clips and spliced them both into the harness of the DOT lights on the taigate. sorry -no pictures- but they look great. :D
