Hey, that looks familiar (see Readers' Rigs link at left) ;)

Darn Near!

They must've changed the rear window on the Z series sometime between yours & mine? That weird twist latch is the same though! Luv'it, doesn't leak like my last Leer!

Pretty spiffy... aye? :-laf

Now that's ooz'n with character! I like it!

This is my 04. 5 with a Glasstite cab high shell. Fits great and perfect color match! :D Ive had Snugtop in the past and they are good but, this shell is SOLID! I might add that on my 90 CTD I saved a few bucks and had a Lear. That was a total mistake! Both side windows leaked and the warranty wasn't worth the paper it was printed on. ;)

Looks like the through-bolts are gone from the rear glass on yours--is it glued to a sub-frame or something?

Among the features that sold me on the Z-series were the availability of the wiper/washer and a power lock (now both my tailgate and rear hatch are tied into the truck's power lock system).

Yes there's a frame inside stuck to the glass. Actually I didn't notice until looking at your picture and couldn't put my finger on what was visibly different. Had to go back and take a double looksee.

The power locks thing is something I considered too, still am ... but haven't done. Mine is rarely parked in public and for those few times, I do go lock it. Each time I do think... power lock! :)

The rear wiper wouldn't do me any good as I can't see anything back there anyhow with the dog nose prints all over the multiple tinted glass pains!

A friend has the flip up side windows and wow that's a handy feature but no side vents, just open or closed!

Here is my Leer. Not bad considering a month ago it feel from the ceiling rack in the garage...

Mine hasn't leaked, even after I dropped it. There are fancier ones out there but for what I use it for, it fills my needs.

Ohnoitsyou, your like a buddy of mine, he's not happy unless his front tire is hitting his fender on his dirt bike when he ties it down. Needless to say he has never had a bike tip over. I bought a 2 bike hauler similar to the single one that you have. Have you had any problems with it? What brand did ya get? I have a YZ450, CR250 and my wife has a CRF250.

Take a look at my Reader's Rigs for the multiple winder option. I have only opened the long side windows once, the rear ones are for the dog. Also consider a slider or tip-up front window in your topper. The tip up is easier to clean. Be sure to get six clamps instead of the usual 4 as the box shakes enough to loose at least two of the four clamps pretty regularly. Also make sure the installer uses a quick connect for the tail/brake lights.

Topper

Sorry that I have no pics but Leer makes a topper that goes with the contour of the cab and slopes back and narrows to the tail gate. It has glass that goes to the front edge of the topper. The glass also tapers in height from front to rear and further enhances the cab shape since the top of the the cab and the side glass are arched slightly. I had one on my quad cab Dakota and I have seen one at a dealership here in colorado springs on a 04 short bed. I offered them $500 for that topper since it is silver like my 05 ctd quad, but no luck. In my opinion they are by far the best looking and enhance the body shape of the shorty quad cabs. I think it is the model 100 xl.

I havent figured out how to post pictures yet, but I have a LEER and as mentioned earlier in this thread it looks great

guaranteed color match and fits great, i also got the sliding window to match the same in my pickup

Im glad you guys are having good luck with your Leers. Mine had leaks on both side windows from day one. Dealer was NO HELP. Ive owned several Snug Tops. Good shell! No complaints. I now have a Glasstite (it was available and didnt have to wait on an order) I really like the fit and finish of the Glasstite. It seems to be about the same or better quality as SnugTop. Great color match and makes it have the "Suburban" look!

Please do a search for "8' topper" in the 3rd gen, and you'll see another thread where I replied with my picture (won't let me upload the same pic again??)

I was shopping for a cap last summer when I got my truck. The fellows here at the TDR turned me on to this cap. It's a Jeraco. It's not a very popular cap and it looks like the others, but the quality is top notch. I put effort into looking for a dealer and there was one about 25 miles away. The constuction, (the roof and rear window/cab blend are real good) color match, and quality are top notch and it was cheaper than a leer.

Two main selling points on this cap were that the main rails are heavily reinforced with marine plywood, and the rear window has a quality hinge/aluminum frame/ latch system so that nothing is attached directly to glass, in other words the glass is not a stressed member, which was a concern of mine.

The last cap I had was a Raven (I was told it was made by glasstite) and one thing that cap did was it moved whenever you hit or slapped the side of the cap, like if you were reaching up while washing. This Jeraco does not do that- it's a tank.

Good luck shopping.

Hey Wayne your Jeraco looks alot like my A. R. E. Z Series shell.

I'm gonna try to post your pic, we'll see if it works.
