looking into limited/locking differentials for my truck... found some information on the detroit locker and detroit true track.

anyone willing to share their experience/knowledge? what works and what don't work? is the clicking, banging, and excessive tire wear worth it if you have 4x4 already? how to these compare to the factory LSD?

thanks in advance.

The Detroit locker is the crash/bang differential. They are super tough but can be tough to live with as well. The tru-track is probably a small step above the factory LSD and probably not worth the money to upgrade if you have the LSD already. Problem is, I am not sure these are even availible for our axles.

IMO, the best option would be the locker used in the GM truck version of this axle. It is a locker that works at low speeds and stays off at highway speeds, a perfect set-up.

Do you NEED a LSD or locker? I think so. IMO, none of these trucks should leave the factory without one, especially Cummins trucks. 4x4 is great but if you drive in the winter, you would have to use it an awful lot when a LSD would suffice. That adds up to extra wear and tear plus reduced fuel economy.
