limited slip options?

Just wondering if anyone knows of any locker options for the American Axel?

I have an 03 2500 2WD 4. 10 gearing, part of my driveway is gravel and on a slope and I've lost traction occasionally. I think the factory offers a limited slip. I'd really like an e-locker or something like it.

I'm not sure about AA having an lockers available, but I will say that the American Axle limited slip is very impressive and works extremely well, espcially compared to the Dana limited slip I had on my old truck. I have a 4X4, but seldom need it because the limited slip rear end works so well. If you haven't bought the truck yet, test drive one up your driveway and see how it does.

I too bought a 2003 HD from dealer stock without limited slip (non available in stock). The dealer wanted $3,500 to install. I called Four-Trax in Anaheim, CA and they said there were no aftermarket limited-slips available for the 11. 5" American rear end because it is a new product. He suggested calling back in November. Apparently, there is a large trade show for the drivetrain industry in Oct/Nov and a lot of manufacturers hold back from releasing their products until after the show. Four-trax estimates the price for these limited-slips will be about $500-$600 installed. I plan to hold out till then.

The limited-slip has gone completely out on mine. Had it in to the dealer today and they agreed and got one on order. Realized it wasn't working when I had one wheel in a mudhole and one on dry pavement and couldn't move. Fortunately, I am still in warranty if that $3500 price is right. There is no metal in the oil at all but it does not work. Am not sure how this limited slip works, but it acts like a pin came out or something. Have now got 61,000 miles on the truck.

$3500!! yikes! The show he is probably talking about is SEMA beginning of November in Vegas. I think I'll wait till then too. I'd really like an E locker.

The other post about the factory limited slip failing is a bummer.

Check AA's website. The TracRite differential (antislip) is the option on Dodge. They also have a locker version TracRite and 2 electric lockermodels.



Whether you can pick one up is another thing. If you bought an open diff I would recommend finding a shop that specializes in installing lockers rather than your dealer. If you know for sure your dealer has a rear end guy that knows what he is doing that is one thing but an outfit that specializes in diffs is a whole 'nother thang.



If you want a real antislip/locker find a BorgWarner unit like I had on a 95 Chevy. I hated that cause I used it in sand and you could bury the axle without trying.



An anti-slip is one thing and a locker is something else. Rock crawlers use lockers.



Anyway, AA makes a bunch of stuff.

They don't replace the internals they replace the whole axle assembly. This is true for every DC dealership. we were told $2100 at time of purchase in AZ.
