I need to know how I can tell if I have a limited slip differential. The tag on the differential has 3. 54 and a serial number on it. Any help with this would be appreciated.

Jack the truck up by the rear end so both wheels are off the ground, put the truck in neutral, then spin the wheel on one side foward, if the other wheel spins the same way you have limited slip rear axle.

Riflesmith, if you raise the hood, you may find a data decal on the front botton that should give among other things, gear ratio and if so equipted, LSD noted. I'm assuming the truck wasn't purchased new or options would be on the window sticker. Another old method is to raise both rear tires and spin one. If the other goes in the same direction, likely a LSD.

There should also be a tag an the differential (not the id tag) bolted to the cover that says LSD which is a reminder during service to put in the LSD additive. Unless someone removed it during service it is usually on the bottom of the differential cover, right side and often has a yellow swath of paint on it indicating additive was installed at the factory. Otherwise, Ted has the best way to determine.
