I purchase a used older Edge three light box and did not connect the wire to the VP44 when I installed it. Do I need to again disconnect the batteries when I connect the wire to the VP-44? I was orginally told that I needed to disconnect the batteries or it would go into limp mode. What is limp mode and its symptoms?

Limp mode is whn the ecm cuts boost to next to nothing to protect engine/trans from some problem it picked up. I would disconnect the battteries anyway before I hooked the pump wire up. Couldn't hurt.

I think as general good practice one should pull the negative cables. I know its a pain sometimes but you never know. Especially when you dealing with the VP. Limp mode sucks.
