Linclon sae 300

Have a chance to pick up a Lincoln SAE 300 welder looks and works great. Dont know much about this type of welder are parts still made for it as I assume it is old. Im not looking to go into welding as a trade but need it for things around the shop. Is this to much of a welder for the home shop? I use a Miller wire feed now and Im ok with it, the welds arent pretty but the hold thanks for any info BIG

SA 300, I assume its gas powered. Its my thinking that one can never have to much welder. If you were to ever try an arc gouge you would want at least the 300. It would run any weld rod size that you could want to burn. Coalsmoke and Greg Harman have had a lot more experience with engine driven machines than I.

If it were me, I would buy it.

What is the price? I think you can get the serial number and call Lincoln and get what year the machine is.

On another note, where in MT are you moving to? I am outside Billings.

the sa 300 was made for a long time the parts for the welder is still available but some of the older engines like the hercules the water pumps are getting harder to get.

It is gas powered im not real hep on the old motors but it looks like a Ford 6 cyl. the price is $1600 dollars. I have a guy that I used to work with thats coming over to look at it he is a welder. Im going to move to a little town off of hwy 200/83 Seeley Lake its kind of north east of Missoula.

I looked at your sign in your from Laurel I bought 2 of my mule's form a guy in Worden and drove thru your town.

Yeah, I know a few people in Seeley Lake. Jim Manti (Man-tie) is a real character. He is a retired Boilermaker, you might meet him at on of the bars. It is a great town. Seems like a reasonable price for a welder that runs.

BIGNASTY, Just saw your thread! You need to find out the year of manufacture. Lincoln made the SA-200 and SA-300 in different configurations at different times. The newer versions are called "classics" in addition to the alpha numeric designations. The welding capabilities of this machine can be outstanding, especially with 6010/6011 and 7018 electrodes. 7024 electrodes up to 3/16 should be no sweat. However, the auxillary power on the older units is 120V DC! Not AC. You would need an inverter to run AC tools unless they are dual AC/DC. The older machines did not have a huge amount of auxillary power available compared to the modern units. If your planned use is primarily a welder. You've got a good one. If it is primarily going to be used as an auxillary generator and it is old with DC only auxillary power, I'd look around some more! PM me if you have questions. Depending on your budget, there are some really excellent multiprocess engine driven power supplies out there. Greg

It will be used as a mobil welder I have a miller wire feed but need elect. power and I was looking at the 300 for around the ranch. I will need to weld drill casing and sucker rod for pole barns and animal pens. I have a guy that I worked with at Chevron he is a welder there to look at it I will let you know the info on the welder as all opinions are of great value to a novice welder. I can weld and make it stick but it aint pretty as if I knew what I was doing.
