Line of Fire

Received my "Line of Fire" light stick, and though the instructions are concise, they do not take into account that my hands will not fit well between the bumper and tailgate. It looks to me that it would be easier to install if I remove either the tailgate or the bumper. I AM NOT MECHANICALLY INCLINED... therefore, which would be easier, and how. Thanks for all help.

Tailgate, although it is easier with two people because it is ackward and heavy.



To remove the tailgate, you must unsnap the support cables from either the tailgate or the bed... lift the steel clip to slide the cable end over the pin... it is a "keyhole" type fitting.



Then rock the tailgate down to about 45 degrees, and pull the bottom away from the passenger side of the truck... then pull the gate to the passenger side of the truck to disengage the driver's side hinge.



Have a rug or something similar to set the gate on.



When I installed my line-of-fire (LOF), I found they had wired the left/right turn signals backwards... the left would flash when the right directional was on and vise-versa. To remedy this, and to plug into the factory 4-way flat connector, I bought a "Ford 4-way flat extension" (I believe it was Hoppys brand) from my local Tractor Supply Company... this is basically a 12 inch piece of wiring with a male 4-way on the one end and a female 4-way on the other. I then cut the green and yellow wires (which are the turn signals and brake lights) and connected green to yellow and yellow to green so that the correct side would flash with the corresponding directional.



It also takes a bit of measuring to ensure that when you open the gate the lip of the tailgate doesn't crush the LOF. I also found that measuring and marking line-up lines made getting it perfectly straight easier... they look really bad if you don't get them even with the bumper.

Steved, nothing against you either, buddy! I just needed a cheap laugh this AM!

Glad I could make someone's day... I looked at this thing both ways... it only seemed to fit nicely the way I put it on... if it was upside down, the wires would come up out of the top which didn't seem likely to me.



Maybe mine was wired wrong? I don't know... but I did need to "adjust" the wiring to make it work correctly.

I know too many people and have seen too many othe these on the road that are partially burnt out or flickering so I decided not to go with the LOF but my own setup instead on the tailgate, How are your guys LOF holding up, wonder why so many have failures? Here is the pic of mine on my tailgate...

Mine is about two years old, and is going on the second PA winter... it is still like new.

No, it covers up the hole. You have to remove 5 screws to move the LOF out of the way to accest the spare-tire hole. I am really considering just mounting at the very bottom of the tailgate. Will have to look at it some more..... (I knew I should have just gone to Southern Custom and told them to order and install..... )
